Academic Skills
Maya has demonstrated immense growth throughout her time at Rossier Park High School. Upon transition from 8th to 9th grade, Maya was at first, incredibly shy. She liked to keep to herself, hide behind her hoodie, and she only interacted with a few preferred staff and peers. Over time, with the help and support of her classroom staff, Maya’s confidence in herself and her many abilities grew. She was not afraid to show off her soccer skills and has grown quite competitive! Maya is an incredible artist and has submitted her artwork to the campus Art Auction fundraiser, as well as to the local Buena Park Community Center Art Show. Maya also won the nomination for 11th Grade Student Ambassador, representing the Functional Skills classrooms on campus. Maya went from shy to advocating not only for herself, but for other students as well!
Maya is enrolled in our Functional Academic classroom, in which she receives both transition skills instruction and academic support. Maya has been able to successfully develop her reading and math skills, as well as learn independent living skills that will serve her well for life after high school. Maya helps run the school’s Campus Café, in which she worked as a barista, cashier, and server. Maya is getting ready to rock her Senior year at Rossier, she feels ready for any new challenge, and she vocalizes her desire to stay with her “Spectrum family” so that she can continue to build on the unique skills that make Maya, Maya. Her Rossier school staff are proud of the resilient personality that Maya has, and we can’t wait to see what comes next for her!
