Program Director Spotlight

Bachelor of Arts in International Studies – Foreign Languages
Master of Education – Curriculum and Instruction with Literacy
Greeting Families and Stakeholders,
My name is Michelle Chandler-Barnes. I am the new Program Director for the Camden Campus in Oakland. I am an experienced educator of more than 25 years. I began my educational journey as an Instructional Assistant in the Cobb County School District located in Marietta, Georgia, where I served Bilingual and Special Education Program students.
My educational framework, at Warren Wilson College, in Asheville, North Carolina, afforded me the opportunity to complete my Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, with a concentration in Foreign Languages. After completion of my first degree, I was afforded an opportunity to teach French and English as a Second Language in Georgia for various secondary and Adult Educational Workplace Programs. I completed my Master of Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction with Literacy, at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I continued my educational career by obtaining a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from Fordham University, located in New York. From 2007-2023, I held various positions as an educational leader, specializing in providing support and services for learners in the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Kazakhstan.
In 2022, I relocated to the Northern California area to serve as an English Language Development Coordinator. During my last position as ELD Coordinator, I provided English Language Learner support for students and staff, served as the ELPAC Assessment Administrator, provided Professional Development Training, and served on the Instructional Learning Team with other educators and administrators.
This year I am elated to serve as the Campus Director of Spectrum Camden. I look forward to serving the families and the students of this community.
