Beginning at age 14, we help students assess their strengths and identify their vocational interests. At 15, we begin preparing them to live and work in the community, building their base of experience and helping them acquire the necessary skills to manage independent personal and work lives.
To provide students the broadest vocational opportunities, we maintain connections with career, technical, and other jobs programs. And, as in all our programs, we encourage involvement from our students’ parents and home schools in helping the student achieve success.
Community integrated vocational programs
Beyond the vocational services that we integrate into our many programs, Spectrum also provides focused opportunities for students to explore paid work in local businesses. Through our community-integrated vocational programs, students work in the community under the guidance of Spectrum-employed job coaches. They train students at the job site and provide on-going support for both student and employer. This remarkable program not only expands our students’ experience, it provides the business community with positive experiences working with skilled, special needs students.
